UPPER LOOP TRAIL

The Upper Loop showcases the entire Preserve at Antoine. Views abound in all directions of the Antoine Creek Valley, Goat Mountain, and the Columbia Plateau.

PARKING: From the entrance off of Antoine Creek Road, drive to the Lower Junction, then follow the sign to the Preserve to the left. Pass the Aspen grove and park at the Upper Junction next to the Upper Loop trail sign.

ROUTE: From the Upper Junction, travel east along the F/G driveway towards the Lower Loop Saddle. In two-tenths of a mile, follow the Upper Loop trail up the hill. The trail climbs steadily through open shrub-steppe terrain.

Stop to rest at the Down Valley Bluff and enjoy excellent views of the Antoine Valley. After a half mile climb, arrive at the Rocky Knob.

Continue up the rolling ridge line enjoying views of Goat Mountain to the north. In six-tenths of a mile, pass through the Secret Hollow.

The Preserve Loop branches off just past the Hollow to the northwest. (For an extra 1.8 miles of distance head right, otherwise continue straight to the south.) You will cross the Preserve Road in a tenth of a mile.

Continue south along the ridge line a quarter mile. Enjoy views at the Preserve Road Lookout and tighten your shoes. We begin the descent!

The trail drops to the south three-tenths of a mile to The End. Enjoy the down valley views before following the switchbacks back to the Upper Junction.

You will pass a spring near the end of the trail. Look for the ruins of a rock foundation of an early homesteader nearby.
