LOWER LOOP TRAIL
The Lower Loop offers a great introduction to the lower elevations of the Preserve at Antoine. The route also showcases the various home sites.
PARKING: Park at the Lower Junction located at the top of the first series of entrance road switchbacks.
ROUTE: Walk east along the road towards home site H. Within thirty feet, you will see a trail sign. If you’d like a harder start to the hike, follow the trail up the canyon. It will take you in a clockwise direction around the Lower Loop.
If you’d like to warm up a bit first, continue east along the road (counter-clockwise route). After a quarter mile, as you approach home site P, follow the Lower Loop Trail sign up the hill. Within a hundred yards, enjoy the views of homesites M, N, and O from The Lower Overlook.
Continue up the ridgeline, enjoying expanding views of the upper Preserve (to the north) and Quiet Valley (to the east). After gaining most of the total elevation, The Upper Overlook rewards you with views back down over M, N, and O as well as the larger Antoine valley.
The trail then begins a side-hill traverse towards The Saddle. Pause here and take a selfie with the panorama view behind. Finally, follow the trail to the west and follow the signs directing you down the canyon.
The trail winds through a graceful Aspen Grove and follows an old wagon road down to the Lower Junction. (In warmer months, watch for snakes in this canyon section.)
